Michael J. Brennan Working Paper Series-Special Conference Issue

December 2018 saw the publication of a special conference issue of the Michael J. Brennan Irish Finance Working Paper Series entitled “Fintech and Financial Risk Management, Evolution or Revolution?”   Held at the Institute of Banking (Citi Building) in Dublin and jointly organised by the Central Bank of Ireland, the Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting at Maynooth University and UCD’s Smurfit School of Business, this conference attracted considerable interest, with over 250 registrations.

Contributions reflect on the influence of fintech on financial markets and the coping strategies of existing risk management systems, while also considering the future impact of fintech on risk measurement, analysis and control.  Notable papers by Jillian Popadak Grennan (Duke University), Tobias Berg (Frankfurt School of Finance & Management), Loriana Pelizzon (Goethe University Frankfurt and Ca Foscari University of Venice), James Gleeson (University of Limerick), Peter Sarlin (Hanken School of Economics), Cal Muckley (University College Dublin) and Tetyana Balyuk (Emory University), make this a significant contribution to the discussion of fintech and financial risk management.

We are grateful to Science Foundation Ireland and the Institute of Banking for their generous support of this conference under the Valuation and Risk (VAR) Strategic Partnership. VAR is a collaboration between University College Dublin, Maynooth University, Dublin City University and industry partners, with support from Science Foundation Ireland.
